A swarm of spiders and a swarm of scorpions have been tested in a quantity of 21,000 at 120 FPS on a Ryzen 5 5600x. The asset uses GPU computation for Niagara, vertex paint for insect limb animation, mesh distance field for surface detection, and HLSL code.
 

  • Includes 10 Niagara effects:

  • 3 types of behavior (+1 for performance testing, in your specific case)

  • Movement resembling emerging from a hive/nest

  • A swarm of insects rushing forward

  • A pit filled with insects; spiders chaotically moving and trying to escape.

  • Each effect is configured considering the speed of the insect, their size, and the height of leg lifting.

Custom effects can be adjusted directly in the Details panel by modifying the area, speed, and the force of repulsion between insects. You can also toggle the attack mode or light avoidance behavior.
